Hiring Coordinator:
While working on my first travel story for Cleveland Magazine, I almost died. Literally.
My raft flipped going over a monster rapid on the 48-degree Gauley River in West Virginia. The travel story I wrote on white water rafting also turned out to be just the summer adventure story that my editor was looking for. Now I want to go on an adventure with your magazine.
My love of writing and interest in words led me to the major of magazine journalism at Kent State University. I am interested in entertainment and women's issues, but mostly journalism and telling interesting stories. I believe that this passion and my desire for personal enrichment, growth and experience would make me an ideal candidate to select.
Recently, I have been reading about the use of the Web in journalism. This trend will change the industry, and I have started thinking in a multimedia format. I have experience working with a collaborative team on magazine feature stories and incorporating videos, maps, polls and photo galleries into news stories. I helped in creating the first section on tours for the Cleveland Magazine City Guide, and I know how to copy police reports, request mug shots and look up property records. As editor of Artemis, I expressed my creative energy and cultivated my leadership skills.
My classes and experiences have made me precise and accurate in my copy editing and reporting abilities, and this job would sharpen my skills. I am curious about all aspects of the magazine industry, and I am always open to advice and new ideas. Thank you for taking the time to look through my Web site.
